The plan details how money will be invested in supporting apprenticeships and cementing the relationship between further education and work to get more learners into construction.

Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) is an industry leading course which covers a range of health, safety and environmental issues for our site supervisors.

The course is designed and accredited by the CITB, one of the leading and most respected bodies when it comes to construction health and safety training.

What do our site supervisors do?

A site supervisor has a range and responsibilities on a construction site. Every workplace will be different, site supervisors will normally be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day work of certain members of staff, this might include being assigned to a specific team member or task on the project.

This means that supervisors are there to ensure the health and safety of the workers they’re in charge of, making sure staff are working in a safe environment and that they’re working in accordance with health and safety laws. As part of this, a site supervisor will be asked to regularly carry out inspections of the working environment to flag up any potential hazards.

While supervisors will normally be carrying out their job under the guidance of site manager who will have overall responsibility for the project, they will still have a lot of responsibility to make sure that the project is being delivered on-time, in budget and to the standards expected by Network Scaffolding.

A nationally recognised qualification

SSSTS courses aims to provide delegates with the knowledge to assist in safely managing a construction site. This includes The Operatives test to ensure workers have a minimum level of health, safety and environmental awareness before going to the site.

The ideal delegate for this course is someone who has, or is about to acquire, supervisory responsibilities and require and understanding of their legal responsibilities which relates to their work activities.

An SSSTS course concludes with a post theory test, this comprises of 25 questions including 22 multiple choice questions and 3 short written questions and answers. Within the exam there are 4 safety critical questions which must be answered correctly in order to pass successfully.

Certification is valid for five years and can be renewed via the Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme Refresher (SSSTS-R) course.
